04 Jan 11 - Update on security situation

04 January 2011 - UNAMID is verifying reports of inter-tribal violence between the Misseriya and Rizeigat communities in Treij village, 22 km south of Zalingei in West Darfur.

Meanwhile, the security situation in all areas affected by fighting in December 2010 between the government and rebel movements is reported to be calm, with the resumption of public transportation to some locations. Aid continues to reach the thousands displaced by the clashes, many of whom had sought shelter outside nearby UNAMID team sites.

UNAMID peacekeepers continue to maintain a robust presence on the ground, ensuring the safety of displaced persons.
