UNAMID's Human Rights Section Concludes Training on Gender Based Violence

UNAMID Human Rights Office, in partnership with the Gender Based Violence (GBV) State Committee, north Darfur state, concluded a two-day training workshop on gender based violence in El Fasher, north Darfur. The training focused on the need to raise awareness on issues related to human rights and combating gender based violence against women and children. 

Addressing the workshop participants, UNAMID Human Rights Officer, Ms. Magda Ibrahim Ahmed, explained that society, as a whole, must pay attention to the entwined issues of human rights and the fight against gender based violence. These can take place anywhere, at any time and if not addressed, can have a negative impact on the socio-cultural well-being of the community. “The training is also geared towards supporting the GBV State Committee to strategize its action plan for the following year,” she added.

Presentations were also made by various experts on Legal Aid, Treatment of rape victims and the role of civil society in responding and preventing gender based violence. Over 40 participants mainly from the Ministry of Health, Judiciary, Prosecutors, Ministry of Social Affairs, Government of Sudan Police, Civil Society organizations, United Nations Country Team, attended the training.
