UNAMID-UNCT meeting discusses strategic issues related to their collaboration in Darfur

El Fasher, 19 May 2015 -The revised UNAMID Protection of Civilians Strategy and the draft framework for ISF implementation, monitoring and reporting mechanism were among the main issues discussed at a coordination meeting between the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) and the African Union - United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) held on 17 May, in El Fasher, North Darfur.

The event also discussed the development of operationalization framework and implementation roadmap for gradual transfer of tasks to UNCT in line with the UN Security Council resolution 2173 (2014).

The meeting, held at UNAMID's headquarters in El Fasher, North Darfur, was co-chaired by UNAMID Deputy Joint Special Representative (DJSR) Mr. Abdul Kamara and the interim U.N. Resident Humanitarian Coordinator, U.N. Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative in Sudan, Mr El-Mostafa Benlamlih.

In his opening remarks, UNAMID's DJSR acknowledged the continuous close collaboration between UNAMID and UNCT in many areas of joint work and highlighted the importance to further enhance the partnership through developing and implementing joint key projects.

Coordination meetings between the Country Team and the Mission are designed to strengthen the partnership between the parties, ensuring complementary and mutual support in addressing issues related to the peace process, humanitarian assistance and the protection of civilians.
