UNAMID rejects allegations of non-payment of financial dues to former staff
UNAMID rejects recent media reports suggesting that the Mission has deliberately not paid on time financial dues owed to former staff members affected by the ongoing streamlining process.
In meetings between UNAMID’s Human Resources Section and concerned staff members, prior to their separation from the Mission, the issue of compensation for overtime services performed was discussed thoroughly.
Since most of the concerned staff members had performed overtime work and had not availed of compensatory leave due to them, Mission management decided that these staff would receive cash remuneration for their overtime hours in lieu of compensatory time off.
In reaching this decision, UNAMID has engaged representatives of the concerned staff members in numerous meetings to explain and clarify the policy governing overtime, and the calculation of payments due to them. Staff agreed to the explanation and computation of payment presented to them.
Staff representatives, at the time, insisted that the resulting payment should be made by 29 February 2016. The Mission is working to resolve this issue and will inform concerned former staff members as soon as payments can be made to them.
UNAMID takes its responsibilities toward separating staff members seriously and is exerting every possible effort to expedite as well as swiftly execute pending financial obligations to those affected by the ongoing streamlining process within its capability and in the larger framework of UN procedures.
