UNAMID Police Commissioner and Director General of the Sudan Police Force, visit joint Project Sites in North Darfur

On 5th November, UNAMID Police Commissioner, General Landing Kinteh, joined the Director General of Sudan Police Force (SPF), Lieutenant General Dr. Ezz El-Deen Al-Sheekh and delegation to inaugurate the SPF state of the art Digital Control Room at the SPF Headquarters in El-Fasher Town, north Darfur.

 Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Lt. General Dr. Al-Sheikh expressed profound gratitude and sincere appreciation to UNAMID Police and the UNDP for the unwavering support given to the SPF and the people of Sudan. “ The establishment of the Digital Control Room in North Darfur will certainly go a long way in facilitating and enhancing the capability of the SPF in crime analysis, sharing sensitive and urgent information for decisive action and quick response,” Lt. General Dr. Al Sheik added.

 In a similar vein, the UNAMID Police delegation attended the official opening ceremony of the SPF Training Academy and later participated in the laying of a foundation stone for the new SPF North Darfur Police Headquarters in El-Fasher. The delegation also visited other SPF facilities such as the Forensic Laboratory, SPF Police Hospital and East El-Fasher Police Centre.

 Addressing guests at these events, the SPF Director General appealed to UNAMID and other UN donor agencies to support the construction of the new SPF Police Headquarters in North Darfur. He further requested UNAMID to assist with provision of medical equipment to the SPF Police hospital to enhance the hospital’s capabilities, prior to the UNAMID’s exit from Darfur.

 In response, UNAMID Police Commissioner assured the SPF Director General of his full support and cooperation in ensuring that SPF continues to enjoy the full support of UNAMID. “Rest assured that the requests and the concerns raised by you and the SPF colleagues, will be put forward to the appropriate authorities for consideration,” General Landing Kinteh added.
