UNAMID honors Chinese and Egyptian peacekeepers in South Darfur

25 March 2010 - The AU-UN Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) yesterday paid tribute to 615 Egyptian and Chinese peacekeepers, deployed in Nyala, South Darfur, in recognition of their commitment to the achievement of security and stability in Darfur.

UNAMID Force Commander Lt Gen. Patrick Nyamvumba expressed the Mission’s gratitude for their hard work and dedicated service. “You have worked relentlessly to execute UNAMID’s mandate, to bring security and hope to Darfur. I urge you to continue with the same zeal and enthusiasm towards achieving peace” he said.

Those commended included 315 members of the Third Chinese Peacekeeping Engineering Company and 300 members of the Egyptian battalion.
