21 May 2010 - Today, 44 members of Cameroon's civilian police contingent were bestowed with UNAMID Peace Medals in recognition of their work in pursuit of peace and stability in Darfur.

The ceremony, which coincided with the 50th anniversary of Cameroon's independence, was held at UNAMID’s headquarters in El Fasher, North Darfur and presided over by UNAMID Deputy Joint Special Representative (DJSR) Mohamed Yonis. The DJSR was joined by Acting Police Commissioner Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi, Deputy Force Commander Maj Gen Duma Mdutyana, and members of UNAMID's senior leadership.

Mr. Yonis described the Cameroonian presence in the Mission as "a strong and eloquent testimony of the commitment of the government of Cameroon to international peace and security."

Aside from police officers, Cameroon also contributes international civilian personnel, as well as military observers to the Mission.
