UNAMID hands over youth centers to the displaced in Hissahissa and Hamidia camps in Central Darfur

On 2 November 2015, UNAMID’s Civil Affairs Section (CAS), Sector Central, in collaboration with the Mission’s Human Rights Section and Rwandese Battalion 42, handed over fully constructed youth centers to the displaced living in the Hissahissa and Hamidia camps in Zalingei, Central Darfur.

The ceremony was attended by community leaders, sheikhs, and representatives of women’s groups, youth representatives and UNAMID staff.

Speaking at the handover, Lameck Kawiche, Head of Office, UNAMID Sector Central, called upon the beneficiaries to make best use of the facility and to maintain it in the best way possible.

The sheikhs of both camps expressed their appreciation for UNAMID’s continued support to the local community in the area and requested the Mission to equip the centers with computers, a photo copy machine, furniture, and a surrounding fence for the women’s center. The two centers are part of the Mission’s Quick Impact Projects (QIPs) programme and are aimed at empowering youth to play a more positive role in peace efforts across Darfur.
