UNAMID Hands over Water Project in El Fasher

The African Union- United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMD) Rule of Law, Prisons Advisory Unit, in collaboration with the Civil Affairs Section, Sector North handed over two elevated water tanks to Shallah Federal Prison, in El Fasher, north Darfur. The event was attended by officials from UNAMID, Federal Prisons Administration and implementing partner organizations.

This project, implemented as part of the Mission’s Quick Impact Projects (QIPs), is designed to enhance confidence between the UNAMID and local Prisons authorities, create a conducive living environment in the locality and solve the shortage of water in Shallah Federal Prison as well as in surrounding areas.

In his remarks, the State Director of Prisons Administration, Brigadier Ahmed Albasheer, expressed his appreciation for the cooperation that exists between the Mission and Prisons Administration at the different levels: “We are very happy with the support UNAMID provides to improve the general condition of prisons and inmates in the Sector” he said. “This water project is one of the greatest achievements undertaken by UNAMID. It will provide Shallah Prisons with adequate, reliable and sustainable water. UNAMID made this dream a reality” he added.

UNAMID representative from the Civil Affairs Section, Mr Rommel Dela Rosa, reiterated the Mission’s commitment to its mandated tasks and through developmental projects through the Quick Impact Project (QIP) initiative that aims to promote and enhance security and peaceful coexistence among Darfuri communities.
