UNAMID Force Commander visits Egyptian troops based in North Darfur

30 July 2009 -- As part of his farewell visits to UNAMID troops, Force Commander, General Martin Luther Agwai, yesterday visited the Egyptian battalion deployed in Umm Kadada, North Darfur, more than 100 kilometres east of El Fasher.

He was received by the Commander of the battalion who briefed him on its overall operations, including its relationship with the local community.

General Agwai expressed his appreciation to the members of the battalion for their performance and commitment, especially for the productive relationship they had forged with the community and for professional training activities they had conducted for Darfurians. He also thanked the Egyptian Government for providing the battalion with all the essential elements to assist the troops in the successful accomplishment of their contribution to the Mission.

The current strength of the Egyptian battalion deployed in Umm Kadada is 885 personnel, including 10 signal section members, 8 military observers, 12 civil police, 1 facility manager, 4 language assistants and 850 troops.
