UNAMID donates equipment to Darfur prisons

20 April 2011 - In a continuing effort to improve law enforcement facilities throughout Darfur, UNAMID has today donated computers to all prisons in the three Darfur states.

The equipment was handed over in a ceremony at the Office of the Director of North Darfur Prisons in El Fasher, North Darfur. The project was carried out in collaboration with the UNDP.

Other initiatives by UNAMID also include supporting prisoner rehabilitation programmes, offering training seminars for police officers and prison personnel on international human rights standards and assisting in improving detention facilities. The Mission also recently helped organized two days of medical care to 600 inmates and prison workers at Shallah Federal Prison in El Fasher, North Darfur, one of the largest in the country.
