UNAMID Continues to Cooperate with Judicial Systems in Darfur

On 11 August 2014, UNAMID’s Rule of Law Section Chief, Ms. Francoise Simard, met with the judicial authorities in Nyala, South Darfur, to explore ways of cooperation in advancing issues related to rule of law.

During the meeting, Ms. Simard stated that she believed social harmony and justice should run parallel to each other. This would ensure that a conducive environment is created for people to access justice without any harassment or discrimination. Ms. Simard, who also briefed the meeting on the reviewed priorities of the Mission, urged smooth relationships between and among the members of the judicial system to dispense justice swiftly and fairly.
On his part, the Acting Chief Judge, South Darfur, Mr. Issam Addeen Ismael Ali, expressed his gratitude for UNAMID’s support to the judicial institutions in Darfur and said he hoped UNAMID would continue to assist in capacity building for local institutions and the rehabilitation of courts and prisons.
