UNAMID’s Gambian peacekeepers hand over medical supplies to Abu Shouk camp clinic, North Darfur

On 18 November 2015, UNAMID’s Gambian peacekeepers handed over essential medical supplies to the clinic at the Abu Shouk camp for internally displaced persons (IDPs), near El Fasher, North Darfur, as part of the Mission’s continued support to displaced populations across Darfur.

These supplies included thermometers, laboratory equipment and anti-malaria, anti-diarrhoea and antibiotic medicines as well as injection kits, ointments and intravenous fluids.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, the Gambian military contingent Commander, Lt.-Colonel James Jatta, assured the people at the camp of the Mission’s cooperation at all times. Additionally, he said that the Gambian contingent would try and obtain more necessary items such as mosquito nets and blankets for the clinic.

Ms. Hafsa Hassan, the doctor in charge of the clinic expressed her gratitude for UNAMID’s timely support and assistance, and said that the clinic would use these resources in the most efficient manner possible.

The handover ceremony was attended by community leaders, women, those residing in the camp as well as youth representatives.
