On 28 August 2014, following a recent rift between the Reizegat and Ma’alia tribes, tribal leaders of South, East and Central Darfur met with UNAMID Sector East Head of Office (HoO), Mr. Landing Badjie, and representatives of the Civil Affairs and Public Information sections in El Daein, East Darfur. The visiting delegation was led by the Shartai (leader) of the Fur tribe and the Federal Minister for Education, Dr. Farah.

During the meeting, both groups agreed to a cessation of hostilities and discussed the possibility of a reconciliation conference. Additionally, the Shartai expressed his appreciation of UNAMID’s support to reconciliation initiatives across Darfur, adding that the Mission’s consistent involvement in such mediation efforts is necessary to promote sustainable peace in the region.
