20 May; UNAMID officially handed over its Team Site in Kabkabiya, North Darfur to the Government of the Sudan, in the presence of the representative of the Wali (Governor) of North Darfur State, representatives from the Government’s Joint Taskforce, local officials and the Kabkabiya community including IDPs and UNAMID staff. The handover is part of the Mission’s drawdown plan in line with the UN Security Council Resolution 2559 (2020) which terminated UNAMID mandate as of 31 December 2020. The North Darfur Government and the Government’s Joint Taskforce strongly reconfirmed their commitment to ensure civilian end-use of the former Kabkabiya Team Site which is designated to be used as a Faculty of Agriculture, University of El Fasher and a Specialist Hospital for Obstetrics and Gynecology. The handover documents were signed by Mr. Houston Fergusson, Director of Mission Support on behalf of the UNAMID and Mr. Ibrahim Musa Hassan, Director General of the Ministry of Social Affairs, North Darfur signed on behalf of the Government of the Republic of the Sudan.
