17 January; The UNAMID Drawdown Working Group met with the Wali (Governor) of South Darfur State, Mr. Musa Mahdi at the latter’s office in Nyala, South Darfur. They discussed issues related to the closure and handover of UNAMID’s Team Sites in South Darfur State. The UNAMID Working Group further briefed the Wali and the South Darfur Committee on the Mission’s overall Drawdown plan including assets disposals, its movements and the civilian end-user of the team sites and assets after the Mission’s exit from Darfur. The planed handover is part of the Mission’s drawdown plan that is in line with the UN Security Council Resolution 2559 (2020) which terminated UNAMID mandate as of 31 December 2020 and authorized a six-month period for the Mission to complete the withdrawal of all uniformed and civilian UNAMID personnel by 30 June 2021, other than those required for the mission’s liquidation.
