The Secretary-General is following with concern developments in the Republic of Sudan, including the reported violence and fatalities. He appeals for calm and restraint and calls on the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the deaths and violence.
UNAMID Joint Special Representative (JSR) and Joint Chief Mediator (JCM) Jeremiah Mamabolo, has hailed the recently held Darfur-wide Conference for internally displaced persons (IDP) as an important milestone in the peace process.
UNAMID and the Government of Sudan (GoS) on 10 December 2018 officially declared the registered contaminated areas at Kulbus Locality, West Darfur, free of Explosive Remnants of War (ERW) and Unexploded Ordnance (UXO).
UNAMID on 22 November 2018 handed over a Rural Court in Nertiti, Central Darfur to the Sudanese Judiciary. The project, supported by the Mission’s Rule of Law Section, is the first rural court in western Jebel Marra and is expected to serve an estimated population of 180,000 people.
On 2 December 2018, UNAMID commemorated World AIDS Day in El Fasher, North Darfur, under this year’s theme: “Know your status.” The event, which was organized by UNAMID’s HIV/AIDS Unit, included a march, candle lighting memorial, drama and cultural performances.
As part of UNAMID’s continued efforts to improve the capacity of the local police and law enforcement institutions in Darfur, the Mission on 13 November 2018 handed over 39 vehicles, 123 containers and furniture to the Sudanese Police Force (SPF).
