JSR receives Swedish Minister of International Development and Cooperation

14 March 2010 - UNAMID Joint Special Representative (JSR) Ibrahim Gambari today met with a delegation from the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led by the Minister for International Development Cooperation, Ms. Gunilla Carlsson, to discuss developments in the Darfur peace process.

The delegation, which included Swedish Ambassador to the Sudan Peter Larsson, was briefed by the JSR, Deputy JSR Mohamed Yonis and the Mission’s senior leadership, on changes in the security and humanitarian situation on the ground and the challenges facing the Mission. Mr. Gambari praised the Swedish government’s support of peace in Darfur.

The ministerial delegation also met with the Deputy Wali (Governor) of North Darfur and visited the Al Salaam internally displaced persons (IDP) camp. They were accompanied by the UN Deputy Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for the Sudan, Mr. Toby Lanzer.
