JSR Adada visits convalescing UNAMID peacekeepers injured in Um Hakibah attack
25 July 2008 -- The AU-UN Joint Special Representative (JSR) for Darfur, Rodolphe Adada, today visited the peacekeepers convalescing in a Khartoum hospital who were injured in the attack at Um Hakibah in North Darfur on 8 July this year, in which 7 peacekeepers lost their lives while 22 were injured.
Following the attack, those peacekeepers who were seriously injured were transferred from Darfur to Khartoum. Of these, 7 are currently still recovering at the hospital: 5 from Rwanda, 1 from Ghana and 1 from Senegal.
Mr. Adada visited the peacekeepers to inspect their condition and the progress of their recovery so far. He praised the peacekeepers for their courage and relentless resolve to carry out the mission assigned to them in difficult circumstances for the cause of peace. The peacekeepers told the JSR they were happy to see him and felt encouraged by his concern.
Mr. Adada was accompanied to the hospital by the Deputy Force Commander, Maj. Gen. Karenzi Karake.
