JSR Adada meets with Sudanese Minister of Foreign Affairs

January 16, 2008 -- The UN/AU Joint Special Representative, Mr. Rodolphe Adada paid a courtesy call today on the newly appointed Sudanese Foreign Affairs Minister Mr. Deng Alor. The visit availed a good opportunity for both sides to exchange views on ways and means for better understanding and
close cooperation between the Government of the Sudan and UNAMID.

The Joint Representative stressed that UNAMID is the result of a tripartite partnership comprised
of the UN, AU and the GoS. The three partners are therefore required to work closely for the
success of the UNAMID Mission whose ultimate goal is to serve peace and stability in Darfur in
particular, and Sudan in general.

For his part, the Minister of Foreign Affairs assured the Joint Special Representative that Darfur is
on the top of GoS priorities and that his Ministry has been assigned by the leadership of the
country to reconcile the Sudan with the international community through continuous dialogue and
consultations in order to build confidence and dispel any suspicions.

In this context, the two agreed to maintain regular contacts to remove any difficulties that stand
in the way of the smooth deployment of the Hybrid Operation and to help with expediting the on-
going peace Darfur process at all levels to achieve a comprehensive and lasting peace.
