27 June 2010 - UNAMID today began a four-day training workshop on sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) for 35 Corrections Staff and Sudanese Police personnel in Zalingei, West Darfur.

The workshop aims at enhancing the knowledge of the law enforcement officers on the causes and consequences of SGBV, and highlights gender issues in prisons, as well as human rights and rule of law elements of prison management. Participants will also discuss civilian protection and community policing in conflict situations. 

The beneficiaries of this workshop will then return to instruct other police officers.
