Campaign for peaceful harvest concludes in West Darfur

On 16 October 2014, UNAMID Civil Affairs Section concluded a peace campaign aimed at addressing potential conflicts between farmers and pastoralists at the Aish Barra Administrative Unit in El Geneina, West Darfur.

The peace campaign, which was rolled out on 28 September 2014, was organized in collaboration with the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) and was designed to ensure a smooth harvesting season in West Darfur.

The campaign, funded by the Darfur Community Peace and Stability Fund, was directed at raising public awareness and promoting inter-community dialogue as a means for resolving conflicts at the local level and fostering peaceful coexistence. Some 40 prominent community leaders toured farming and nomadic settlements across the region and disseminated peace messages, reaching out to community leaders, youth and women, members of local farmers’ committees and nomads across the area.
