    This is a programme that highlights, among other topics, the role played by tribal dances in preserving the culture and traditions of the people of Darfur through  successive generations. Darfur is endowed with a multitude of tribal dances for any occasion. These dances have served as a reservoir of cultural and traditional norms.

    Today’s programme features local Darfur dishes that is prepared especially during autumn such as Tamalyka and Makhat, it also talks about how the dishes are prepared. The locals believe that the such dishes are prepared to protect the people from autumn diseases as well as an interview with King of Jabal Sei area, Saife Adam , about cultural traditions in Jabal Sei area.

  • UNAMID TODAY, 19 June 2016: Zeer Sabeel to cure diseases (repeat)

    In this programme, you will hear about the “Zeer Sabeel” a traditional water vase or container which is usually placed at the edge of the  road  to enable passers-by to drink from it free of charge. Sometimes the water vase is placed in front of one’s door. Tradition has it that drinking from this water can cure some diseases. The vase is usually donated by some member of community as a charity to the soul of a departed relative. Obviously, the tradition is spurred by the spirit of charity in a hot climate.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 19 June 2016: An exclusive interview on peaceful coexistence between nomads and farmers

    Today’s programme features an in interview with Ahmed Alduma, Religious Affairs Officer of Shangil Tobaya, about peaceful coexistence between nomads and farmers in the area. The interview took place during the UNAMID led Shangli Tobaya Peace Campaign Program.

  • UNAMID TODAY, 18 June 2016: Child soldier (repeat)

    In this programme you will hear how UNAMID’s Child Protection Unit has succeed to almost weed off completely the phenomenon of child soldier from Darfur. It has succeeded through strong advocacy and closely working with the warring parties.

  • Voice of Children, 18 June 2016: The Day of the African Child 2016 (repeat)

    The Day of the African Child 2016 will be observed under the theme “Conflict and Crisis in Africa: Protecting all Children’s Rights”. The day has been celebrated every year on 16 June, it was first initiated in 1991 by the Organization of African Unity to honor those who participated in the Soweto Uprising in 1976. To commemorate it, an hour discussion was held to discuss issues faced by children of Darfur such as child marriage, school dropped out and violence. 

  • UNAMID TODAY, 17 June 2016: UNAMID’s assistance of demobilizing six thousand ex-combatants (repeat)

    “Do you know”? that UNAMID over the years has assisted in demobilizing 6,000 ex-combatants, both from government and the armed opposition, and reintegrating them into the society by providing them with basic requirements of starting a new civilian life? You will hear that and other issues discussed in the programme.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 17 June 2016: Community Labor Intensive Projects

    Today’s programme features an interview with Saber Ahmed Elias, Manager of Spiro, a  national NGO,  on the unexploded ordnances and  the danger they exposed to the people of West and Central Darfur as well as a feature on UNAMID DDR Community Labor Intensive Projects (CLIPs) on the construction of a secondary school for girls in Kernding IDPs camp in West Darfur, and the impact it has towards education opportunities of the  IDPs’ children.

    In this programme you will hear, among other things, the begging phenomenon in the streets of El Fasher. So many people, mainly women and children, are resorting to begging to make ends meet. Why they do so? What it takes to make them abandon the practice? How does the society view them? Do they occasionally get enough for the trouble? This and other social issues are highlighted in this programme.
