  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 19 July 2016: Herders and farmers’ relation in Darfur

    Today’s programme features relationship between farmers and herders in Darfur. During the rainy season the herders often graze their camels on the rocky hillsides that separate the fertile lands. The farmers would share their wells, and the herders would feed their stock with wheat that is left by farmers during the harvest time. But in dry season farmers often fence off their land for fear that it would be ruined by passing herds.

    Through an interview with the Head of Social Administration of Social Welfare of North Darfur State, in this programme you will hear about how consultation on child protection in Darfur is a unique. Children who part of this consultation programme are those who are being reintegrated into society, such as child recruits and street children. The support provided by the administration includes psycho-social support, vocational training.   The programme also highlights the role of UNAMID Civil Affairs Section.

  • Voice of Children, 18 July 2016: Children of conflict zone [repeat]

    In today’s programme you will hear about challenges faced by children of Darfur as a result of an ongoing conflict in the region of Sudan. Many children live under the threat of violence, as well as the possibility of exploitation and abuse. They also often face food and water shortages, inadequate or non-existent healthcare and little hope for an education. As a result, Sudan has one of the highest infant mortality rates.  

  • UNAMID TODAY, 17 July 2016: Women in IDP make handicraft for living (repeat)

    This programme will tell you about how women in Darfur have generated sustainable income through handicraft making, it shows that they are creative and have moved beyond recipients of food aid. It helps address the issue of unemployment amongst women in the Internally Displaced Persons camp. This programme also looks at how people of Sudan celebrated the 70th anniversary of the United Nations, the occasion is an opportunity to reflect – to look back on the UN’s history and take stock of its enduring achievements.

  • UNAMID TODAY, 16 July 2016: Awareness campaign on role of women in peace making (repeat)

    In this programme, nearly 200 university students gather and discuss the progress of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 on women and peace and security during the UNAMID backed workshop in El Geneina University in West Darfur. The workshop aimed to raise awareness amongst students about the resolution. The Security Council resolution reaffirms the important role of women in the prevention and resolution of conflicts, peace negotiations, peace-building, peacekeeping, humanitarian response and in post-conflict reconstruction and stresses the importance of their equal participation and full involvement in all efforts for the maintenance and promotion of peace and security.

    This programme tells a story of a volunteer teacher who has been teaching in an isolated area of Kendra nomadic area of Medoub Mountain in North Darfur where he has worked with orphaned and displaced children of IDPs from Darfur.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 15 July 2016: Food insecurity increases in IDP camps

    In today’s programme you will hear about the increase of food insecurity in some Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Darfur. As alternative, women in the IDP camps plant crops so they do not have to rely solely on international aid. Security is an another challenge for the women in these IDP camps.
