  • Voice of Children, 27 May 2016: Girls’ education in Darfur

    Today’s programme features how school children in Darfur spend their time on holidays. Unlike children in conflict free countries, children in Darfur, particularly those in IDP camps Darfur often have to help their parents in the farm to generate income during holidays for their families. This programme also features a discussion on equal opportunities for girls and boys within a family in accessing education. Despite progress in recent years, girls in Darfur continue to suffer severe disadvantage and exclusion in accessing education, as there is still strong cultural tradition favoring boys to get education.  

  • UNAMID TODAY, 26 May 2016: Children missed opportunity to go to kindergarten

    This programme will tell you about children who missed opportunity to go to kindergarten in many areas of Darfur. The children in these areas are often have to wait until they are six years old to start their first grade in the kindergarten. 

  • Yala Nebni Darfur 26-05-2016: UNAMID-capacity building for local organizations to accelerate development and achieve peace.

    UNAMID Quick Impact Projects provide assistance programs to support capacity building for local organizations to accelerate development and achieve effective recovery goals. To contribute effectively to development, civil society organizations must have the right to participate in agenda setting, operate effectively and be held accountable for development results. Development assistance can be more efficient and effective if local capacity building is better integrated into ongo­ing programs. The following program talks about how UNAMID can help local organizations assume more effective roles in country-owned development in Darfur.

    Through an interview with the Head of Social Administration of Social Welfare of North Darfur State, in this programme you will hear about how consultation on child protection in Darfur is a unique. Children who part of this consultation programme are those who are being reintegrated into society, such as child recruits and street children. The support provided by the administration includes psycho-social support, vocational training.   The programme also highlights the role of UNAMID Civil Affairs Section.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 25 May 2016: Family breakdown and street children

    Today’s programme features how young people in Darfur end up in streets due to family breakdown as well as how women in Shangil Tobay town of North Darfur have been disadvantaged as result of child marriage. 

     

  • UNAMID TODAY, 24 May 2016: Women in IDP make handicraft for living

    This programme will tell you about how women in Darfur have generated sustainable income through handicraft making, it shows that they are creative and have moved beyond recipients of food aid. It helps address the issue of unemployment amongst women in the Internally Displaced Persons camp. This programme also looks at how people of Sudan celebrated the 70th anniversary of the United Nations, the occasion is an opportunity to reflect – to look back on the UN’s history and take stock of its enduring achievements.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 24 May 2016: Songs for peace in Darfur

    Today’s programme features an Interview with Fadol Abdalla, Sudanese artist from North Darfur, about  the songs he writes which are mostly about peace in Darfur and women’s participation in the society. This programme also features handicraft-making that is part of culture in Darfur. Shayalat soks (handbag) is one of the handicrafts produced for home decoration.

  • UNAMID TODAY, 23 May 2016: Awareness campaign on role of women in peace making

    In this programme, nearly 200 university students gather and discuss the progress of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 on women and peace and security during the UNAMID backed workshop in El Geneina University in West Darfur. The workshop aimed to raise awareness amongst students about the resolution. The Security Council resolution reaffirms the important role of women in the prevention and resolution of conflicts, peace negotiations, peace-building, peacekeeping, humanitarian response and in post-conflict reconstruction and stresses the importance of their equal participation and full involvement in all efforts for the maintenance and promotion of peace and security.  

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 23 May 2016: Humanitarian aid coordination in Darfur

    Today’s programme features UNAMID organized training in partnership with Darfur Police Department to protect civilians from violence in a conflict area as well as an interview with Adam Suleiman, Deputy Director of HAC based in El-Fasher, about coordination between the State Government, UNAMID and International Organizations in providing  humanitarian  aid  to displaced persons in Darfur.

  • UNAMID TODAY, 22 May 2016: A story of volunteer teacher in Medoub Mountain

    This programme tells a story of a volunteer teacher who has been teaching in an isolated area of Kendra nomadic area of Medoub Mountain in North Darfur where he has worked with orphaned and displaced children of IDPs from Darfur.
