28 Sept 10 - UNAMID stresses commitment to returnees along Chadian border

28 September 2010 - UNAMID yesterday met with a delegation of the native administration from the towns of Tine and Kornoi, located along the Sudan’s northwest border with Chad, to discuss significant issues affecting the area. The group highlighted the plight of their people owing to the conflict in Darfur and requested the Mission’s support in providing livable conditions to facilitate and encourage returnee activities.  They articulated that the border region was severely hit by the conflict with approximately 60 per cent of its population having sought refuge in neighboring Chad.

UNAMID has set in motion an action plan, to immediately conduct two assessment missions to the Kornoi region, largely to identify reliable and credible partners for the implementation of quick impact projects for the area.
