26 Aug 10 - UNAMID, UNDP organize training on family and child protection in West Darfur

26 August 2010 - A training workshop for Family and Child Protection Unit of the Sudanese Police in West Darfur took place yesterday 25 August 2010.  It was organized jointly by UNAMID, UNDP, Office of the Wali Advisor for Women and Children, and UNICEF.

The objective of workshop was to identify and build the capacities of focal points of the Police Child and Family Protection Unit (PCFPU) on gender based violence (GBV) issues in field locations in West Darfur State so that they can be capable of responding to incidences in the field. The workshop also aimed at encouraging an effective and coordinated communication channel, on GBV cases, between the focal points in the field locations and PCFPU head office in El Geneina.

As part of its mandate, UNAMID is required to assist all stakeholders in promoting the rule of law, including through support to the strengthening of an independent judiciary and professional corrections system and combating impunity, working in close cooperation with the United Nations country team, the UNDP and other agencies, funds, programmes and NGOs.
