22 Sep 11 - UNAMID to settle disputes between nomads and farmers in North Darfur

22 September 2011 - UNAMID peacekeepers based in Korma, North Darfur, are mediating in a dispute between nomads and farmers in Karime and Fatra villages, 19 kilometers south of Korma. The farmers captured 42 camels, belonging to some nomads, which they found grazing their lands and brought them to the Mission’s Team Site. UNAMID planned a meeting with the farmers, the nomads, ‘umdas’ (local leaders), Sudanese military and police to settle the issue peacefully.

UNAMID Civil Affairs section is also engaged in capacity building activities to facilitate inter-communal dialogue during the cultivation season and avoid cases of crop destruction in Darfur’s three states.
