22 July 2010 - A major training aimed at 20 judges from North Darfur State began on 21 July. The UNAMID organized event, entitled "Capacity development for justice and sustainable peace," is scheduled to run for five days.

In the Sudan, judges are the most senior officials in control of courts as they decide how criminals should be punished under the Shaaria and Common law systems, both of which are applied in the country.

The jurists are expected to discuss various laws including those on admissible evidence, child protection, trial procedures, and human rights.
