21 Sep 11 - International Day of Peace Statement: UNAMID Chief wishes sustainable peace in Darfur

El Fasher, 21 September 2011 – On the occasion of the International Day of Peace, the African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) Joint Special Representative Ibrahim Gambari conveys the following message:

Every year on 21 September, the international community celebrates the International Day of Peace. People around the world commit to help create a world based on non-violence and tolerance, a world without armed conflict.

For the African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur and for myself, every day is spent working for peace in Darfur. We will continue to do our outmost to advance sustainable peace, prosperity and development in the region.

I wish take this opportunity to extend to the people of Darfur my best and most sincere wishes and hopes for a sustainable peace.

I would also like to call on all concerned to constructively work together to advance the aspirations of Darfuris for a peaceful and prosperous future for Darfur.
