21 Feb 11 - Delegation of ambassadors visit North Darfur

21 February 2011 - UNAMID today received a delegation of twelve ambassadors to the Sudan from various contributing countries at its headquarters in El Fasher, North Darfur.

The delegation, lead by Qatari Ambassador Ali Bin Hassan Al Hammadi met with UNAMID leadership, UN Country Team representatives and local state officials.

The delegates were briefed on the state of the Mission’s deployment and on its achievements and challenges. The group later made a field visit to Tawilla in North Darfur, where they met with peacekeepers stationed there and IDP leaders.

This is the third such large ambassadorial visit to the region. The second took place earlier this year and the first followed the visit of the Permanent Representatives of the UN Security Council.
