17 Nov 2011- UNAMID supports polio campaign in North Darfur
17 November 2011- A polio vaccination campaign conducted by World Health Organization (WHO), with the support of UNAMID, started 17 November 2011-today and will continue until 24 November in North Darfur, targeting 460,551 children under the age of 5 years. The polio campaign is important as neighbouring Chad has reported recently an outbreak of 119 polio cases.
UNAMID supported the campaign by transporting personnel and cargo to the remote areas of Tine and Um Barru near Chad, as well as 300 kg of vaccines and vitamins.
