13 Jan 11 - US envoy visits Darfur

 

13 January 2011 - US Special Envoy for Sudan Scott Gration, accompanied by US Senior Advisor on Darfur Dane Smith, today concluded a two-day visit to Darfur. On 12 January, General (ret.) Gration and his delegation met with UNAMID leadership where they were briefed on the latest developments in the peace process, as well as the current security situation. The day ended with a stop at UNAMID’s team site in Tawilla, located approximately 60 kilometers west of El Fasher, North Darfur. Today, the group visited Deribat (situated 110 km SW of El Fasher), Khor Abeche (83 km NE of Nyala), and Shangil Tobaya (67 km S of El Fasher), for meetings with local authorities, internally displaced persons (IDPs) and Mission officials.
