11 December 2011- The United Nations Country Team and UNAMID officials met today in El Fasher, North Darfur, to discuss future collaboration between both, particularly in early recovery activities for Darfur.

UNAMID Joint Special Representative (JSR) Ibrahim Gambari highlighted that “a stronger partnership is essential in implementing our mandates.”

“The people of Darfur want services and don’t care if it is UNAMID or the UN agencies who is providing them. Only with a solid partnership we can achieve more. We have to strengthen our impact and explore ways to advance. The needs of the people in Darfur cannot wait,” the JSR said.

The UN Humanitarian Coordinator/Resident Coordinator ad interim in Sudan, Peter De Clercq, wished “to see a reinforcement of the cooperation and a better understanding in areas like protection of civilian and voluntary returns. We look for sustainable solutions.”
