1 August 2011 - Foreign Minister of Burkina Faso and former Joint Chief Mediator for Darfur, Djibrill Bassolé, visited today his country’s troops stationed in UNAMID Team Site at Foro Baranga, located approximately 150 km south of El Geneina, in West Darfur. Mr. Bassolé was briefed by the peacekeepers on their activities on the ground and the security situation in the area. He later addressed the Burkina Faso battalion, expressing his support and encouraging them to continue with their good work.

Upon his arrival at El Fasher airport, the Minister said that he will remain committed to help achieving peace in Darfur. “The achievement made in Doha is good and important but it is not the end. There will not be a comprehensive peace agreement without the participation of all movements. We need all parties to make a peace deal based on the Doha Darfur Peace Document,” he noted.

Djibrill Bassolé also paid a courtesy visit, on 27 July, to UNAMID Deputy Joint Special Representative-Political Aïchatou Mindaoudou in Khartoum.
