09 November 2010 - Joint Special Representative Ibrahim Gambari today welcomed UK Secretary of State for International Development Andrew Mitchell, accompanied by UK Ambassador to the Sudan Nicholas Kay.

The envoys met with representatives of the humanitarian community and visited Abu Shouk and Al Salaam internally displaced persons (IDP) camps, located on the outskirts of El Fasher, North Darfur.

JSR Gambari later received Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Alain Le Roy at the Mission’s headquarters in El Fasher.

Both delegations then met with the Mission’s senior leadership to discuss the progress made in achieving UNAMID’s mandate, as well as its preparations for the upcoming referendum and the challenges faced by recently escalating tensions in the region.
