06 Oct 10 Security situation update




A UNAMID patrol was ambushed yesterday 16 km south west of Kutum, North Darfur. A group of about seven armed men opened fire on the patrol, which was escorting a water tanker. The attackers fled when the UNAMID soldiers returned fire. The peacekeepers sustained no injuries but two APC’s tires were damaged by bullets.

 

In a separate incident, four Sudanese workers of an international NGO were also ambushed on 4th October by two men in Gandi area, 45 km west of Nyala, South Darfur. The gunmen robbed the personal belongings of a team member and unsuccessfully tried to carjack the team’s vehicle. Nobody was injured. UNAMID is following up the investigations.
