03 March 2011 - Leaders from the Miseriya and Massalit tribes yesterday announced their commitment to peaceful coexistence during a reconciliation ceremony held in Nurban village, located east of El Geneina, West Darfur.

UNAMID provided logistics support to enable more than 200 people from the Massalit group in Mulli village to witness the ceremony in Nurban, where the population hails mostly from the Miseriya group.

The event, initiated by UNICEF, was also attended by state officials and a number of humanitarian organizations operating in the area. Representatives of both communities noted that “if there is peace at home, there will be peace in the community and, by extension, in the entire nation.” State officials commended and encouraged further mediation efforts.
