On Sunday, in a display of solidarity with the Darfuri population, UNAMID’s Pakistani contingent donated nine truckloads of drugs and other medical supplies to Nyala Teaching Hospital during a ceremony held at UNAMID’s Nyala base in South Darfur.

“UNAMID is here in South Darfur, and in Darfur in general, to support and aid the Sudanese to bring services and peace to the region,” said Ms. Nwanne Vwede-Obahor, UNAMID Sector South Acting Head of Office. “To this extent, I commend the Pakistani contingent for continuing to demonstrate good gestures toward the people of South Darfur.”

During the ceremony, Colonel Salman Ahmed, the Pakistani Hospital’s Commanding Officer, pointed out that Pakistan is eager to facilitate peace and prosperity in Sudan by any means possible. He noted that the donations come as part of an ongoing effort to strengthen ties between the Pakistani people and the Sudanese. “On behalf of the government of Pakistan, I would like you to accept this donation as a token of good faith,” he said.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Mohamed Ahmed, the State Health Minister, expressed gratitude to UNAMID. “The drugs you have given us will go a long way in easing our problems in the health sector,” he said.

The ceremony was attended by the UNAMID contingent commanding officers, the South Darfur World Health Organization Director, the Nyala Teaching Hospital General Director and other health officials.
