On 6 June 2016, UNAMID’s Engineering Section and the Pakistani contingent, inaugurated a water station at Ardamata area in El Geneina, West Darfur. On 18 May 2016, UNAMID handed over a VHF radio set to be used for air traffic control to the Nyala Airport authorities, South Darfur. On 29 May 2016, UNAMID Joint Special Representative, Martin Uhomoibhi, presided the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers ceremony held in the Mission’s liaison office in Khartoum, Sudan. On 22 May 2016, UNAMID Rule of Law Section, in collaboration with the state Prisons Administration, launched a two-week workshop on management and operations of prisons for 30 prisons officers in El Fasher, North Darfur. On 18 May 2016, UNAMID’s Police component and Civil Affairs Section concluded a one-month training for 150 internally displaced women on manufacturing fuel-efficient stoves in El Geneina, West Darfur. The project, which is part of the Mission’s Quick Impact Projects programme, aims at protecting the environment as well as minimizing possible security risks to displaced women while collecting firewood.
