22 June 2008 -- The Police component of the African Union- United Nations Mission in Darfur, (UNAMID) conducted its first training programme in Criminal Investigations for the Government of the Sudan (GoS) Police officials in EL-Fasher, North Darfur.
2 July 2008 -- Dmitry Titov, the UN Assistant Secretary-General in charge of the Office of Rule of Law and Security Institutions (OROLSI) in the Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO) in New York recently paid a working visit to North Darfur.
El Fasher, N. Darfur, 9 July 2008 – The Joint AU/UN Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) joins the Secretary-General of the United Nations in condemning in the strongest terms the attack on its peacekeepers that took place on the evening of 8 July in North Darfur.
9 July 2008 -- "On 8 July at approximately 14h45 local time, a UN-African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) joint police and military patrol was ambushed by unidentified militia between Gusa Jamat and Wadah (100 km east of Shangil Tobayi, North Darfur).
30 June 2008 -- Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and the African Union Chairperson have appointed Mr. Djibril Yipènè Bassolé of Burkina Faso as Joint AU-UN Chief Mediator for Darfur. Mr. Bassolé will conduct the mediation efforts in Sudan on a full-time basis. He will be based in El Fasher.
10 July 2008 - The UN-AU mission in Darfur reports today that the attack on a UNAMID patrol on Tuesday , 8 July, resulted in the deaths of seven peacekeepers -- five Rwandan military personnel and two police officers – one from Ghana and the other from Uganda. 22 other peacekeepers were wounded (
EL FASHER, 14 July 2008: The joint African Union – UN peacekeeping mission in Darfur (UNAMID) today vowed to maintain its operations in the region and continue implementing its mandate, as non-essential staff prepared to relocate due to the recent deteriorating security situation across Darfur.
