UNAMID Radio Unit has been broadcasting its radio programmes around Darfur since July 2011.Two of its flagship programmes are the Voice of Children; a weekly magazine style radio programme that is produced and presented by children aged 9 to 15 years old, and Yala Nebni Darfur (Lets Build Darfur); one-hour-magazine style radio programme focusing on themes related to UNAMID mandate. Both of these radio programmes are broadcast on radio Al Salaam 98.0 FM in Khartoum and 7.2MHz, 41 Meter Band SW in Darfur every day from 08:30 to 09:30 and from 14:00 to 15:00.

The radio unit has recently launched its new magazine programme, UNAMID Today, a 30 minute radio programme that highlights the Mission’s activities and human interest stories in Darfur. The programme is broadcast  on El Fasher radio, 95 FM and 801 AM every day from 9:30 to 10:00. 

The radio programmes are broadcast in Arabic.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur,17 November 2016: Psychosocial support for detainees.

    This program features the role of UNAMID in providing psychosocial support for detainees in Darfur, to improve the legal and psychological status of detainees and their families to urge local and judicial authorities and Human Rights activists towards supporting the prisoner’s issue. It’s also to provide a social intervention that aims at improving the detainee skills in income generation skills that can help them reintegrate into the community one they finish their time in the prison.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur,16 November 2016: Health in Shangil Tobay area in North Darfur.

    This program features a report on the damage caused by early marriage in Shangil Tobay area in North Darfur. It also features an interview with Asia Ismail, the Director of the Health center of Shangil Tobay, about common diseases affecting pregnant women in area and how she manage to treat them.

  • UNAMID TODAY 15 November 2016, UN to reduce poverty in west Darfur state.

    This program features an interview with the United Nations Development Programme in West Darfur, about their role in reducing poverty in Darfur region. It also features UNAMID’s assistance to the displaced women at Krendeq IDP camp where the Organization has introduced fuel efficient stoves. 

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 15 November 2016: school feeding for displaced children in Abu Shook camp.

    Features a report on how to lead the education of young girls to change the practice of early marriages among Darfur communities. Also interview with Jihad Youssef, Head of EL-Fasher University Peace Centre about the phenomenon of jealousy among children. The program also features a report on school feeding for displaced children in Abu Shook camp for internally displaced persons.

  • UNAMID TODAY 14 November 2016, Effects of war on the town of El-Fasher.

    Because of the war, El-Fasher town is hosting three large camps for the internally displaced people (IDPs). This program features the works of UNAMID’s Human Rights Division in reforming the prisons as well as providing the prisons with water and sanitation facilities.

    The programme also features the presence of the international organization in the town and how it has affected the growth of the economic sector in the town.

  • Voice of Children,14 November 2016, Children's rights are the human rights of children.

    This program features a voice raised by children of Darfur, with particular attention to the rights of special protection and care afforded to minors. The Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) of 1989 defines a child as any human person who has not reached the age of eighteen years. UNAMID Child Protection Unit is working hardly to ensure that Children's Rights are implemented in a feasible way, through different ways in which one of them is this program which aims to help children raise their voices.

  • UNAMID TODAY 13 November 2016, income generation projects for families in Darfur

    This program features an interview with King Jaafar Mohammadayn of Um Baro area, who explains what the civil administration is doing to create employment through income generation projects.

    The program also features UNAMID’s Quick Impact Projects in Darfur and how they provide income generation projects for families in Darfur.  

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 13 November 2016: vaccinated against childhood diseases.

    This program features how UNAMID is working to raise women's awareness in nutrition and hygiene at Abu Shouk camp. And interview with Mohammed Adam, Director of the Immunization Center in Millet about how they convince the families to bring their children to be vaccinated against childhood diseases. 

  • UNAMID TODAY 12 November 2016, the phenomenon of homelessness in Darfur.

    Due to the war, displacement and destitution which in turn cause massive economic pressures, thousands of people in Darfur have been left homeless living in the open, in a host community or in construction sites.

    In recent times, homelessness has become such a big problem posing threat to the future of the children.    In this programme Omda Mohammed Abkar director of the Social Welfare Department in North Darfur explains the role of his ministry in supporting children.

    In this Episode there’s a debate about the role of women in society and the search for women’s rights within the framework of the celebration of International Women's Day and the 16 days of activism on campaign against violence against women
