Also this programme features Shama, a trader in Abushok IDP camp market, who talks about her life struggle to educate her six children by selling vegetables and fruits.

    Today’s programme features children of Darfur in making their own games from rudimentary materials as well as a story from Mustura Yagoub, an elementary school student who will enter high school, about his worries and hopes in the high school.

Not for Abdalla Abakar who, accepted his condition and worked to defeat the stereotypes by concentration on education till he graduated from University with honours. He aspires to become a journalist.

    Today’s programme features a tradition in Darfur that believes ability of healer to treat ailments such as diarrhea and fever, such as a tradition is called Alfosod. This programme also features an interview with Ayat Alfateh, a member legislative council on early Marriage in Darfur that is one of the root causes of violence against women.

  • UNAMID TODAY, 17 May 2016: Harmful traditional practice in Darfur

    In this programme you will hear about a painful tradition of extracting teeth of children, being exercised in Darfur. The parents who conduct that excruciating teeth removal they do so under the belief that it brings a bad omen. They also believe the tooth has been cast and they call it ‘ a plastic tooth’. So many times the exercise in addition to leaving excruciating pain to the child it also affects him psychologically. The programme features an expert who explains why the practice is outdated and that it should be abandoned completely.

    Due to war, many individuals in Darfur live with disability. The sheer number of people living with disability puts a big burden on the society and the government. What are the daily challenges that face a person with disability in Darfur? The programme highlights a story of a person living with disability who, in spite of his condition, he is battling to become a journalist.
