UNAMID Radio Unit has been broadcasting its radio programmes around Darfur since July 2011.Two of its flagship programmes are the Voice of Children; a weekly magazine style radio programme that is produced and presented by children aged 9 to 15 years old, and Yala Nebni Darfur (Lets Build Darfur); one-hour-magazine style radio programme focusing on themes related to UNAMID mandate. Both of these radio programmes are broadcast on radio Al Salaam 98.0 FM in Khartoum and 7.2MHz, 41 Meter Band SW in Darfur every day from 08:30 to 09:30 and from 14:00 to 15:00.

The radio unit has recently launched its new magazine programme, UNAMID Today, a 30 minute radio programme that highlights the Mission’s activities and human interest stories in Darfur. The programme is broadcast  on El Fasher radio, 95 FM and 801 AM every day from 9:30 to 10:00. 

The radio programmes are broadcast in Arabic.

  • UNAMID TODAY, 8 October 2016: Displacement put more pressure on women of Darfur

    In today’s programme you will hear about the life of women in IDPs in Darfur who some of them have become bread winners for the family yet have to face violence due to the conflict in the region. In Abu Shouk camp in El Fasher women has formed Displaced Cord Association Robust Charity recently to serve the displaced women and children in the camp to access education and run workshop about renunciation violence and a culture of peace.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 8 October 2016: Peace building process

    In today’s programme you will hear about girls’ education in Darfur and how girls in Darfur want to have equality by gaining the same education opportunity as boys. UNAMID has conducted several activities   to enhance peoples’ understanding on gender equality. 

  • UNAMID TODAY, 7 October 2016: Healthy lifestyle

    In today’s programme you will hear about the importance of prevention of getting disease by having healthy lifestyle. Washing hands is one of them. Also in today’s programme, you will hear an interview with Hawa Adam, an IDP woman in El Fasher, who has produced handcrafts to help generate income for her family.  

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 7 October 2016: Women centre in West Darfur.

    In today’s programme you will hear about women centre in El Geneina, West Darfur, that was built with the support of UNAMID. The centre will be used to train skills for women in the area and to organize women’s activities. 

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 6 October 2016: School for children with special needs

    Today’s programme features Almahad elementary school in El Fasher that accommodate students with special needs. In this programme you will also hear about the school teaching method and a special interview with Jihad Mohammed, Director of College of Women's Development at the El Fasher University, about the college’s support in training women in traditional food preservation methods to ensure food security at homes.

  • Voice of Children, 5 October 2016: Children voice against conformity

    In today’s programme you will hear a debate about the use of school uniforms at schools in Sudan. A question raised in this debate if the use of the uniforms will conform the society. Young people in Sudan raise their voices against conformity in the society.

  • UNAMID TODAY, 4 October 2016: Income generation activities for women in IDP camps

    Today’s programme features a training in income generation for women of IDPs camps in El Fasher done by UNAMID Police Women Network. The training aims to build women’s capacity to help alleviate family poverty. You will also hear other interesting stories in this programme.  

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 4 October 2016: Traditional midwives in Sudan

    In today’s programme you will hear about Dayat Alhabil, traditional midwives in the Sudan, and how their services are still used by women in rural areas in the region. In this programme you will also hear about the danger to the mother and baby associated with the traditional practice as well as solution of the problem.

  • UNAMID TODAY, 3 October 2016: What do you know about UNAMID Activities?

    Today’s programme features recent activities of different sections of UNAMID. One of them is a workshop on peace process held in West Darfur.  

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 3 October 2016: UNAMID new mandate

    In today’s programme you will hear about UNAMID’s new mandate that was unanimously adopted by Security Council under Resolution 2296 (2016). The Council underlined that, in the context of limited progress on meeting benchmarks and ongoing insecurity, the mission must use its capacity and resources to protect civilians, deliver humanitarian assistance and meditate between the Government of Sudan and armed movements that had signed the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur.
