UNAMID Radio Unit has been broadcasting its radio programmes around Darfur since July 2011.Two of its flagship programmes are the Voice of Children; a weekly magazine style radio programme that is produced and presented by children aged 9 to 15 years old, and Yala Nebni Darfur (Lets Build Darfur); one-hour-magazine style radio programme focusing on themes related to UNAMID mandate. Both of these radio programmes are broadcast on radio Al Salaam 98.0 FM in Khartoum and 7.2MHz, 41 Meter Band SW in Darfur every day from 08:30 to 09:30 and from 14:00 to 15:00.

The radio unit has recently launched its new magazine programme, UNAMID Today, a 30 minute radio programme that highlights the Mission’s activities and human interest stories in Darfur. The programme is broadcast  on El Fasher radio, 95 FM and 801 AM every day from 9:30 to 10:00. 

The radio programmes are broadcast in Arabic.

  • Voice of Children, 16 September 2016: Children festival in Nyala (repeat)

    In this programme you will listen to poetry reading as part of the annual children festival in Nyala, South Darfur, that aims to support peace and child rights and prevent violence against children in Darfur.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 15 September 2016: The World Day of Theater celebration in Nyala

    This programme features celebration of the world day of theater in Nyala and how the people and cultural groups there celebrate it together with the youths from Rehaid Alberdy, a local NGO focuses on theatre performance for building peace. 

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 14 September 2016: Community Labor Intensive Projects

    In this programme, you will hear about UNAMID backed Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration’s (DDR) Community Labor Intensive Projects to train youths in getting skills of various income generation activities. 

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 13 September 2016: Nyala cultural festival week

    In this programme you will listen to UNAMID backed sport activity, horse race, in Nyala, South Darfur, that has been held recently recently to promote peaceful coexistence among the many communities of the region. Horse racing was popular during the Darfur Sultanate, which existed from the late 16th century.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 11 September 2016: Peace building though cultural activities

    The programme features role of popular cultural groups in maintaining cultural identity and heritage of Darfur through their cultural activities. The programme also features role of Hakama (native women singer) in building peaceful coexistence between the people and community in Darfur. 

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 10 September 2016: Income generation by women of Nyala

    In this programme you will listen to an interview with Fathia Othman, a women leader from Nyala who talks about women’s activities in the region in bringing in income to help their families.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 9 September 2016: Burial tradition in Darfur

    This programme features some traditions in Darfur after burial ceremony. One of the traditions is the visit of relatives of the deceased and stay for few weeks in the family’s house to show a respect

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 8 September 2016: Peacebuilding building peace through education

    In this programme you will hear about UNAMID backed project to support education across Darfur by building schools and providing furniture for the schools. Also in this programme, you will hear about UNAMID’s support to the national prisons in Darfur in ensuring the prison conditions meet international standard. 

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 7 September 2016: Capacity building for handicraft makers

    In this programme you will hear about the importance of empowering the population who produce handicrafts that have been produced manually by help market the products and build capacity of the artists who produce the products. Also in this programme you will hear an interview with Halima Sasaone, a well-known singer from Shagra village, EL Fasher, North Darfur.
