04 March 2010 - The security situation in El Fasher, North Darfur, remains tense following protests against the failed “Mawaseer” pyramid scheme. Sporadic gunfire has been heard in the afternoon, but no injuries have been reported. UNAMID is carefully monitoring the situation and calls on all parties to refrain from further acts of violence. As a result of the unrest, UNAMID has had to reduce its movements to Zamzam Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp, on the outskirts of El Fasher, where a Community Policing Centre had been burnt down by an angry crowd of demonstrators.
