The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

16 June security situation update

UNAMID confirms ongoing clashes southwest of the town of Zalingei in West Darfur. UNAMID reports indicate that the fighting began yesterday morning between the Misserya and Mahadi tribes in Taringa village, located approximately 77km from Zalingei. The number of confirmed fatalities and injured, as well as the cause behind the recent hostilities, has yet to be determined.
