Closure of UNAMID

The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

11 Jan 11 - Update on security situation

11 January 2011 - UNAMID is currently investigating reports of the abduction of three Sudanese nationals, employed by international NGO Catholic Relief Agency, on 9 January near Manjura, a village located approximately 60 km north of El Geneina, West Darfur.

In a separate incident on 9 January, a convoy of commercial trucks headed from El Daein to Nyala, South Darfur was ambushed by unknown gunmen near Tor Taan village, 30 km southeast of Nyala. Sudanese police escorting the trucks returned fire. No casualties were reported.
