Closure of UNAMID

The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

06 March 2011 - UNAMID has confirmed that three bombs were dropped on 3 March on the mountains near Samra and Bersi villages, three kilometers northeast of Sortony, North Darfur. No casualties were reported.

UNAMID was established on 31 July 2007 with the adoption of Security Council Resolution 1769. The mission was mandated to protect civilians, support humanitarian access, and promote peace and human rights in Darfur.
