The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

1 July 2010 - Today, 215 Nepalese police advisors were awarded peacekeeping medals in a ceremony held UNAMID’s headquarters in El Fasher, North Darfur.

UNAMID’s Force Commander Lt. Gen. Patrick Nyamvumba praised the police officers’ “courage, professionalism and commendable character” and expressed gratitude for their contributions towards peace and security in Darfur.

General Nyamvumba was in For Baranga, West Darfur, yesterday to decorate 800 UNAMID military peacekeepers from Burkina Faso for their service and commitment to the Mission. Also attending the ceremony was Burkina Faso’s ambassador to the Sudan, Mr. Moussa Nebie, who commended his countrymen’s unwavering dedication.
